VVS Laxman May Go to UAE in Place of Covid Infected Rahul Dravid- BCCI Source

Indian team has got a chance to bounce back after the crushing defeat against Pakistan in the first match of the T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian men in blue will face Pakistan in the Asia Cup on 28 August. Meanwhile, this year the Asia Cup is scheduled in UAE.

Just before the four days of the start of the Asia Cup, Team India suffered a major setback. Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid has been found COVID-19 positive. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has confirmed this information. India will play their first match in the Asia Cup against Pakistan on 28 August.

VVS Laxman may take place of Rahul Dravid

Board sources say VVS Laxman could be an option. Rahul has not left with the team. VVS may replace him for a few matches. Rahul Dravid was rested for the Zimbabwe tour then the head of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman, handled the responsibility in place of him. Rahul can join the team only after the coming negative.

Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, the Indian team won the ODI series against Zimbabwe 3-0. Rahul did not go to Zimbabwe with this team. Dravid was in rest. Apart from him, batting coach Vikram Rathod and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were also rested.

The schedule will not change

Despite the head coach being positive, no change is expected in India’s schedule. A routine COVID-19 test is done for all the players of the team. If any other player or support staff also comes positive, then he will be kept in isolation till he comes negative.

The format of the Asia Cup is T20 this time

The Asia Cup 2022 will be a T20 format Asia Cup. However, Asia Cup’s format is not fixed its chances as the nearest World Cup format. This year cricketing nation has to play T20 World Cup in Australia that’s why the format of the tournament is T20.
