Juan Mata joins Galatasaray on two-year deal

Galatasaray announced on Thursday that the second year of the deal for the Spain international will be up for negotiation. Mata, 34, transferred from Chelsea to United in January 2014 and made 285 appearances while playing there for eight years, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League.

Mata, a talented player, managed 51 goals and 47 assists for United but was unable to continuously maintain the form that made him a crucial component of Chelsea’s offensive system. Additionally, the Turkish Super Lig team revealed that they have signed Argentine striker Mauro Icardi on a loan from Paris St. Germain for the 2022–2023 campaign.

Also last month, Galatasaray acquired the four-year deal of Arsenal’s Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira.

For Turkish Süper Lig team Galatasaray, professional football player Jaun Mata plays as a midfielder. Despite having the ability to play on the wings, he primarily played as a central attacking midfielder. Mata, a graduate of Real Madrid’s youth programme, played for Real Madrid Castilla in the 2006–07 season before joining Valencia in the summer of 2007. With 174 games over four seasons, he established himself as a key component of the team’s midfield.

The UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup were won by Mata in his rookie season after he signed with Premier League club Chelsea in August 2011 for a reported sum of around €28 million.
