Bumrah was not permitted to play in Wednesday’s opening T20 match between India and South Africa, according to the BCCI. During India’s Tuesday practise session, Jasprit Bumrah expressed back soreness. The BCCI Medical Team evaluated him, according to the statement.
Mohammad Shami or Deepak Chahar, who were added as stand-by players for the T20 World Cup, would have to be chosen by the selection committee if Bumrah were to be fully ruled out of the competition.
While both Shami and Chahar excel in the Powerplay, they aren’t recognised for their bowling in the latter innings.
Because of Covid, Shami had to miss the series against Australia and South Africa. He hasn’t played in a T20I for India since their World Cup encounter versus Afghanistan last year. However, he had taken 20 wickets in the IPL 2022, the highest for the Gujarat Titans, who won the tournament.
