Team India is almost out of the race to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2022. The Sri Lankan team defeated India by 6 wickets in the Super-4 match played on Tuesday. Batting first after losing the toss, team India scored 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma played an innings of 72 runs. In the chase, Sri Lanka achieved the target in 19.5 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Sri Lanka’s openers Pathum Nisanka and Kusal Mendis put on a 97-run partnership for the first wicket. Both made 97 runs in 11 overs. Nisanka got dismissed for 52 runs in 37 balls. At one time Sri Lanka’s score was reduced to four wickets for 110 runs.
It seemed that India would win the match, but Bhanuka Rajapaksa and captain Dasun Shanaka together gave Sri Lanka victory. Bhanuka Rajpaksha made 25 runs in 17 balls and Shanaka played an unbeaten inning of 33 runs in 18 balls.
The Last Over Thriller
The Sri Lankan team needed 7 runs in the last over to win. Indian pacer Arshdeep gave only 5 runs in the first four balls. The batsman could not play a shot on the fifth ball, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had a run-out chance but his throw did not hit the wicket.
After this, there was no throw at the non-striker’s end either. In this Sri Lankan batsmen took two runs and won the match. India is still in the race for the final on paper. But, for this many miracles needed to happen at the same time.
