Erling Haaland, a forward for Manchester City, has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August after a stellar start to his English career that saw him score nine goals in five games.

The 22-year-old Haaland scored twice in his league debut against West Ham United, once at Newcastle United, and then three times in as many games against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest to help City win four of their first five games. The Norwegian, who moved to City from Borussia Dortmund, won the prize against competition from Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Gabriel Jesus, and Martin Odegaard of Arsenal, among others.
Only former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, with 10 goals in December 2013, holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League month, according to Opta.

We all intended to start the season strong, so I stated, “Hopefully I can continue to help the group… and maintain on our fantastic start to the season, and I’m glad to have played my part by scoring goals.”
After six games, City has 14 points in the league, one fewer than Arsenal, who are now in first place. The team will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
