The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has chosen to “remove” handball from the calendar as a result of faction warring in the organisation, hence there won’t be any handball competitions at the Gujarat National Games in 2022.
A factional dispute prevented handball from being played at the National Games
The event has been postponed both the indoor and outdoor versions of the sport, which were scheduled to take place in Vadodara and Surat, respectively. The choice was made in response to rival factions claiming they had the right to send teams for each of the two versions, which will be played from September 29 to October 12, eight teams total, with eight teams made up of male and female players.
The taekwondo tournament, which was previously scheduled as part of the National Games to be conducted in Surat, will no longer take place, according to information received.
The indoor handball competition was scheduled to take place in Sama, Vadodara City, while the outdoor competition was scheduled for Dumas Beach in Surat. Several spectators were looking forward to the sport, thus the cancellation of both editions of the handball game has seen as a “frustration,” according to representatives of the Gujarat Sports Authority (SAG).
In both the men’s and women’s categories for both indoor and outdoor events, the top eight teams from the National Games’ previous iteration were supposed to compete. Teams with 16 players each make up the indoor competition, and teams with 10 players each compete on the beach.
